A court has heard how the Kemptown ‘Gay Oscars’ turned into a heated skirmish between two rival bar owners. Guests who gathered at the Metropole hotel for the “Golden Handbag” awards were said to have witnessed Simon Thompson holding Sharon Barr by the throat. Mr. Thompson denies calling Ms. Barr a “lesbian bitch” but went on to say “she looks like a cross between Ronnie Corbett and a leprechaun”. I would have thought that anything involving Ronnie Corbett was the greater insult.
